A pair of replacement carbon elements intended for bench‑top gravity water filters that employ a flat‑bottomed or screw‑mount cartridge. Each element is formed from a solid block of compressed activated carbon, manufactured without binders that could leach into the water. The block’s tight porosity physically strains particles down to a sub‑micron level, while the immense internal surface area of the carbon adsorbs chlorine, trihalomethanes, pesticides, herbicides and a range of volatile organic compounds. Heavy metals such as lead and mercury are reduced through both physical entrapment and weak chemical bonding.

Gravity‑Fed Operation
Because no pump is used, water passes through the block under its own weight. This slow transit time — often taking 15 to 30 minutes per upper‑chamber fill — allows extended contact between water and carbon, contributing to thorough chlorine removal. The elements are designed to be submerged in the upper chamber, with a threaded outlet that connects to the lower chamber’s spigot. After replacement, flushing the element with clean water before attaching it to the reservoir washes away any loose carbon fines.

Service Life
Under normal domestic conditions, a single block can filter approximately 1,500 litres of water before the carbon pores become saturated and the flow reduces markedly. For a household filtering four litres a day, this equates to about a year of use. Variables such as high sediment content, elevated chlorine levels and warm ambient temperatures can reduce this estimate. Users are advised to note the installation date and consider replacing the element if the filtered water begins to develop a stale or musty background note.

Storage and Compatibility
The elements are individually sealed and should be kept in a dry, cool cupboard. Once installed, they must remain wet; drying out can crack the carbon block and introduce channelling that reduces effectiveness. The two‑pack provides a spare that can be installed immediately without waiting for a new delivery. These carbon elements are designed for the final polishing of already potable water and are not a substitute for disinfection or primary treatment of untreated water sources.
